Monday 06 September 2010 dons trust news A little bit of change Starting this Saturday, there will be loose change boxes on the bars in the middle and back bars on matchdays, so that supporters can contribute any loose change they are willing to donate to the Dons Trust ground fund. Any contributions are gratefully accepted. To put this in context, if 200 supporters give 20 pence of their change from the bar at every single home league game in a season, then that amounts to over £900 of funds per year towards the Trust's fundraising.

Saturday 04 September 2010 first team news Dons regain top spot The Dons earned a hard-fought victory as they came away from Rockingham Road with all three points, and top position in the league. With Andre Blackman and Danny Kedwell successfully coming through pre-match fitness tests, Terry Brown did not have to make as many changes as he had feared. Ryan Jackson and Ed Harris started league matches for the first time and Lee Minshull also came into the starting line up. The match was packed full of incident, with Sam Hatton giving the Dons a 13th minute lead when his free kick breached the defensive wall and caught out Nathan Abbey in goal. The lead though was short lived as, five minutes later, Iyseden Christie shot from the edge of the box and with the aid of a deflection from one of the Dons’ defenders, the ball changed direction and gave Seb Brown no opportunity to save. Both teams had opportunities to take the lead but it was not until the second half that what turned out to be the winning goal was scored. A fine pass by Christian Jolley found Kedwell who cut in past the defender and unleashed an unstoppable shot. Despite Kettering’s pressure, Seb Brown was rarely called into action and the Dons missed several opportunities to put the game to bed. Terry Brown was thoroughly delighted with the victory, having had a number of injury scares before the game. “A large amount of credit must go to Ismail Yakubu who had been ill since the Newport match and had been unable to keep down any food during the week. He was keen to play despite the obvious weakness and put in a great display of defence for 90 minutes. Some of the football we played today was particularly pleasing, with a number of good flowing moves. We should have wrapped up the game long before the end, and if we are going to be successful we must learn to kill off the opposition. “It was an important win at Kettering and returning to the top of the league puts us in great spirits for next week’s home match against Bath City.”
Saturday 04 September 2010 club news Special opening of the Club Shop The club shop will be open on Sunday 5 September from 12 noon until 1.00 pm prior to the Newport County v Wrexham gane in the Blue Square Bet Premier which will be shown live on the TV in the middle bar at Kingsmeadow.

Friday 03 September 2010 first team news Terry defers his selection until the last minute Terry Brown, fresh from his award as Blue Square manager of the month, was facing selection uncertainties before tomorrow's game at Kettering. "Looking forward to Saturday's game against Kettering, it is always a difficult place to go. We have good memories from last year which will hopefully see us go into the game in a positive frame of mind. "This week's training has been disrupted somewhat by several experienced players suffering illness or knocks. We will have a roll call tomorrow morning prior to departure and however that pans out we will definitely be going into the game with an energetic and robust young side. "Definitely not available tomorrow will be Mark Nwokeji, who hopes to turn out for the reserves on Monday night at Beaconsfield, and Brett Johnson who is recovering from a medial ligament injury and should hopefully be fit and available for training prior to the Luton game. The results of his scan proved positive in that for once a knee injury hasn't turned out to be a cruciate ligament problem but according to Mike Rayner it will take another couple of weeks before he is back to full fitness."
